At the beginning of my spiritual journey, I painted Eve numerous times. She is a fascinating subject - the First woman ever to be a mother of the whole of humankind and the First to fall! I was then recently married and expecting my first child. Also, I was toying with a popular relativist idea of Eve’s greatness: attributing her sin of disobedience to a sort of adolescent revolt for independence from God the Father. As a result, I produced a whole series of interesting paintings related to Eve.
I painted her green to honor C. S. Lewis’s character in “Perelandra” here. Fresh as a spring twig, she is innocently naked and vulnerably joyful in her love for Adam and their child. Her greenness turns to flesh as she matures through her true feminine experiences of the sacramental union and motherhood. Like the ripening of an apple, the warm undertones light her face, and the mystery of the new life ignites the sparks in her eyes. On her slender shoulders, she carries the weight of the new world abundant with life, and her strong body, painted with earthy hues, evokes the strength of a tree. Eve, our prehistoric mother, becomes a prototype of every mother on Earth. And despite the curse of the original sin, she bears fruit. She is a tree of life. It is from the generational fruit of her tree that the new Eve will come forth, and her son will crush the head of the serpent.
It is an original painting not a print or reproduction or mass produced art. All necessary arrangements are made to make sure your paintings arrive safely to You. Please, contact me if you have any questions.
